A few words (of caution) about information you find on the World Wide Web: Proceed carefully - When providing your personal information, be aware that if you do not decline all "third party offers," your personal data may be packaged for resale or brokering. Free Services. Additionally, free services should be just that -- there is no need to pay for scholarship information that is offered at no charge through many organizations, and websites. Phone number. A phone number is often asked for but is NOT required. Unless a person wants calls regarding the "great deals," there is no need to provide a phone number. Great Deals. Web sites will offer you "great deals." There is always an option to choose "No Thanks" for these "deals", always click "No Thanks." Who Wrote the Web site? The person or organization that wrote or who is sponsoring the web site is not always who it seems to be. Be careful about information you read on the web and do not assume that all web sites are being truthful. Username and password or PIN number. Some websites require you to provide a username and password. You can use the WORKSHEET to help you keep track of these, so you can easily re-visit websites. |
