Announcements

The rumor about faculty development was laid to rest. Currently there is no requirement for full-time faculty development. Adjunct are required 4 hours of faculty development per year to receive a step increase.

The latest information on faculty portfolios (part of the evaluation process) was passed out. Newer information on this has become available since the task force meeting and will be distributed shortly.

The will be a safety committee meeting Friday February 25 at 1:30 p.m. at NRG. Room TBA.

Any full-time faculty member wishing to be housed at PIN should contact David Fonken. He will be entertaining requests.

It is almost certain that 2 new full-time faculty will be hired to start in the Fall of 2000.

The currently vacant half-time position at RGC has been up graded from a Lab Tech II to a Lab Tech III. Hopefully, we will be hiring for this position soon.

Before the holidays, there was a meeting about the poor ventilation, lack of hoods, and non-existent emergency gas shut off in RGC labs. A plan for minimal repairs was mapped out. All items on the plan were taken care of except for installation of a desktop hood. Until this work is complete, labs may be cancelled in room 318. This will be done on a case-by-case basis, depending on the experiment performed. As of the task force meeting, Facilities had not given us a time frame with which to work on making contingency plans. As of 1/31/00, they project installation will be complete by 2/4/00.

Safety Material
The task force edited the safety rules for students. These will need to be re-written and voted on at a later date. We did not get to the emergency procedures or the general safety procedures.

Technology Committee
A technology committee formed to address our capital equipment and facilities needs. The members are Debbie Sackett, John Young, Kathy Nabona, Lew Barnett, Bill Cheek and Gary Rodge. This committee will meet on the morning of Feb. 11 (time and location TBA) to develop a preliminary technology plan in time for the budget process this year.

Course curriculum got CHEM 1405
It was decided that a subcommittee should be formed to discuss the course outline for CHEM 1405. Debbie Walker volunteered to research this matter further. THECB may have information pertaining to what our course content should be.

Chemistry web pages
John Young expressed an interest in updating our web pages. Due to lack of time, nothing specific was decided.
