CHEMISTRY TASK FORCE MEETING

March 24, 2000

 

Faculty attendees: Debbie Sackett (Task Force Chair), John Young (Assistant TFC), Kathy Nabona, Ya-Ping Huang, Al Dumbuya, Linda Gregory, Anita Thurwachter, Bill Cheek.

A. Budget Initiatives Report:

Debbie reported that Chemistry is not mentioned in the latest version of the Academic Master Plan, which means no new initiatives for the next 5 years.

Tentative requests as a part of Process A:

(1) $4100 of hourly money to replace money transferred to the classified account this year for:

(a) Upgrade of T2 to T3 half-time at RGC.

(b) Upgrade from 1/4 to 1/2 time at PIN.

(2) $5000 of hourly money to offset cost of converting hourly money to a half-time classified lab tech at NRG.

(3) $1500 consumable supply money to cover operating costs at EVC.

(4) $6000+ for purchase and installation of a 6 foot hood in 318 RGC.

(5) $30,000 for IR at NRG.

(6) $4500 for 3 Spec 20s at RVS.

E. Committee for evaluation of adjunct faculty consists of Debbie, John, Art, and Steve (agreed over the phone).

F. Finalized Safety Rules for students. These will be used beginning this summer. The final version will be available soon at the Chemistry web site.

 

Next task force meeting will be April 21st. Definite topics will be:

(1) Vote on a new book for CHEM 1411/1412

(2) Each campus must report which labs they are using for CHEM 1405

Other miscellaneous announcements:

(1) We will probably have to submit a Fall 2000 schedule this spring, so start looking at the schedule for you campus now.

(2) The selling of instructor copies of ACC books is strictly forbidden. If you are approached by anyone trying to buy books, the correct procedure is to inform campus police so that they may be escorted from campus.
