Task Force Minutes

Announcements
(1) Check and improvement to OSHA standards of ventilation in all the labs, prep. rooms, and storerooms at ACC.
(2) Install ventilation to the chemical storage lockers located in the tunnel at RGC.
(3) Install an ADA approved shower/eyewash in RVS 2223.
(4) Change shut-off valves and plastic fittings in the gas jets at RGC 316 and 318.
(5) Install a permanent 6-foot hood in RGC 318
(6) Improve safety in RGC 318.1 (chemical storage room). Improve ventilation in cabinets, explosion-proof lighting, and permanent covers where plastic sheeting currently exists.
(7) Exit to the corridor for RGC 315 (Fred's office).
(8) Increase in hourly funds by $4,000. Replacement funds for adjustments in classified positions at RGC and PIN this year.
(9) Increase in hourly funds by $5,000. Subsidy for hiring of half time classified at NRG next year.
(10). Increase in $1,000 to operating budget for EVC.
Other agenda items:
Textbooks: The Task Force selected by vote the Whitten, Davis & Peck "General Chemistry", 6th ed., Saunders College. This book will be used for CHEM 1411 in the fall and CHEM 1411/1412 in the spring.
Course descriptions: The committee made changes to the Course Catalog descriptions and similar changes to the short descriptions to be entered into the fall schedule. (a) In the description for CHEM 1405, the sentence "Designed for non-science majors." was omitted. (b) The Prerequisite in the CHEM 1411 description was changed from CHM 1614 to CHEM 1405.
Lab meeting dates for the summer were selected.

June 14 & 15, first experiment
July 3 & 4, no lab
August 14 & 15, last experiment
(b) 1st 5 ½ week session:
first meeting: no lab
second meeting: safety
3rd - 14th meetings: 12 experiments
15th meeting: no experiments
(c) 2nd 5 ½ week session:
first meeting: no lab
second meeting: safety

Web-based CHEM 1405: Deborah Walker made a presentation on a web-based course for CHEM 1405 that she is developing. The Task Force approved of her plan for full implementation in the Spring of 2001.
