CHM 1614.2 Lab Handouts:
Dr. Rodi demanded the Task Force decision on the handouts for CHM 1614.2 lab. He once again stated our three options:
1. Allow central duplication to copy the materials and sell it at the bookstore.
2. Allow an outside publishing company to customize the material and sell it in the bookstore.
3. Adoption of a new lab book for the course.
The Task Force replied with options they had explored.
1. Integrate all labs from each campus into one unified lab book.
2. This lab book would not be photocopied by the department.
3. Place copies of the document on reserve in the library for the student to copy.
4. Place a disk with the document in the computer lab for students to print.
5. Place the document at an independent photocopy house and allow students to go there to copy the lab book. (Ginny's or Kinko's)
Dr. Rodi agreed to the terms of the Task Force policy. It was agreed that a subcommittee would author the integrated lab manual. This subcommittee will consist of Art Meyer, John Young, Debbie Sackett, Dan Dewberry and Steve Kirschner. Steve Kirschner agreed to make arrangements with Ginny's once the manuscript was completed. Art Meyer asked for release time to write this manual once receiving all input, but was denied by Dr. Rodi.
Release Time:
The Task Force requested release time for the Task Force leader, Kathy Nabona, to better track the money spent in the Chemistry budget. This request was denied by Dr. Rodi.
Infrared Spectrophotometer:
The infrared spectrophotometer, which is a vital piece of lab equipment, at the NRG campus broke and is irreparable. The Task Force agreed to allow the RVS campus to donate the IR on that campus for two weeks to allow the students at NRG to have the same learning ability as the students on the other campuses. Thanks Steve Kirschner.
Textbooks:
We began discussions into the investigation of possible new books for each of the courses. Results are as follows:
CHM 1614.1 continue with flex-text and revisit the idea in Fall 1998
CHM 1614.2 see above
CHM 1634.1 3 years still left with this book before it goes to a new edition
CHM 1634.2 continue with this lab book as a complete restock of chemical labs and prep room would be required with the adoption of a new book
CHM 1644.1 same as 1634.1
CHM 1644.2 same as 1634.2
CHM 2614.1 still 1 more year on book before goes to a new edition consider in Fall 1998
CHM 2614.2 continue with current edition, book goes to a new edition in Spring 1998
CHM 2624.1 same as 2614.1
CHM 2624.2 same as 2614.2
