Committee Reports

Adjunct Faculty Committee: The Committee interviewed five applicants and made their recommendations.

Faculty Evaluation Committee: Stefan reported that this committee has completed the adjunct faculty evaluations and the full time faculty portfolio evaluations. Dean Peebles will distribute the evaluations to faculty members. The committee is also developing a list of excellent projects, policies, and ideas from the evaluation materials. These will be shared with members of the Task Force.

Assessment of Student Learning Committee: Marilyn distributed the results of the assessment instrument. There were several questions concerning the assessment instrument and scoring the assessments that will be addressed at future Task Force meetings. Marilyn indicated that embedding the assessment questions in a test and giving more points for the assessment questions may affect the results on the assessment. Also, some people noted that the assessment questions varied in their degree of difficulty. Finally, there were questions about grading the assessment questions. For example, if incorrect information were provided in addition to correct information that covered the grading rubric, how should the incorrect information be assessed?

The Task Force adopted the following plan as a result of the assessment results:

1. A brown bag seminar will be held on local government.

2. A brown bag seminar will be held on public policy.

3. A Developmental Writing instructor will be invited to a Task Force meeting to provide assistance in teaching students how to write essays.

4. Greg Garlow will collect and distribute articles on teaching and learning to Task Force members.

5. The assessment instrument will be refined before it is administered next year.
