Agenda Item: Chair's Report

Discussion:      

 

  1. We will switch to new editions of the Magleby and Momayezi in the spring.  The Janda text will not change until next fall.
  2. The History Department Emeritus Professors Lecture "The World Turned Upside Down:  Texas Reconstruction" will be held at Northridge on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm.
  3. Grade Distribution statistics have been emailed to all the faculty.
  4. Summary statistics for Spring 07 grades in relation to the prerequisite were distributed.
  5. Distribution of student evaluation summary data in January will be accomplished by email.  Every one needs to reactivate their ACC email if they have not done so already.

Discussion:       20 of 21 pre-tests have been received and 15 of 21 post-tests are in.

Agenda Item: Faculty Development Committee Report

Discussion:       Jeff thanked Reza Rezaee for presenting our Brown Bag Seminar on "Education Behind the Veil:  The Impact of Women's Higher Education in IranÓ

Decision/Follow-Up items:    The fall book club selection is Lines in the Sand by Steve Bickerstaff.  The book club meeting will be held Friday, October 19, 2007 at 2:30 at the Starbucks at 2900 West Anderson Lane.  The Professional Development Committee will meet at Starbucks at 2:00 pm.

Discussion:       Paz reported the committee had reviewed a course proposal by Anaka Rivera for a "Minorities" specialization of a U.S. Government in-class section for fall 08.

Discussion:       Frank updated the department on efforts to get the self-assessment instrument on-line

Discussion:       The Blackboard project will be delayed until the summer of 08 because of Blackboard Updates.

Agenda Item: Proposed "Minorities" specialization for U.S. Government in-class course

Presenter:        Anaka Rivera

Discussion:       Anaka requested approval of a U.S. Government-Minorities specialization course for the fall of 08.  She changed the proposal somewhat in response to suggestions from the Curriculum Committee.

Decision/Follow-Up items:    The department approved the request.
