1. Current textbooks which will be out with new editions in the fall are Janda, Sidlow, Bardes, and Kraemer.

Agenda Item: Student Assessment Committee Report

Discussion:    Shina presented the results of last fall’s student assessment exercise and the group discussed the findings.

Discussion:    Faculty Input Forms have been received and evaluations are due to the Dean by March 7. Full-time Faculty Input Forms are due to the Chair by March 3.

Discussion:    Jeff thanked our colleague, Karry Evans for her presentation on Creative and Innovative Ideas in Teaching Government. He welcomed suggestions on future programs which emphasize improved teaching.

Discussion:    Frank passed out copies of the PCM self-assessment instrument on-line which is now available for use by individual faculty members on their websites.

Discussion:    The committee is working on the outline for the Blackboard page. Cecile outlined their thinking thus far.

Discussion:    Karry Evans discussed the Program Review and recent applications for funding of the Course Redesign Project. The Review will be available on the Government Department webpage.

Discussion:    Paz requested approval of his travel request to attend the Southwester Political Science Association meeting in Las Vegas, February 12-15, 2008.

Discussion:    The department discussed the current list of approved textbooks.

Decision/Follow-Up items: The department tentatively added Lone Star Politics (CQ Press) to the approved list for 2008-09. Janda, Sidlow, Bardes, and Kraemer will be changed to the new edition for next year.
