Agenda Item: Chair's Report

Discussion:
1. Beginning of the year packets containing Government Department Handbooks were distributed.
2. Everyone was reminded to post office hours on-line, submit a syllabus, print your class roster and check roll the first few class days, and to notify the campus manager if you have to miss a class.
3. New full-time and adjunct faculty were introduced.
3. The department has a new evaluation website which can be
accessed from the Government Department web page (http://www.austincc.edu/govtdept/
).
4. A short discussion was held on the new 6 withdrawal rule.
5. Everyone was reminded of the new ACCeID.
6. Kris Seago is available to help all faculty in the development of a webpage.
Agenda Item: Adjunct Faculty Hiring Committee Report
Presenter: Lynn Lehle
Discussion: Lynn discussed the plans for the committee for the upcoming year.

Agenda Item: Student Assessment Committee Report

Discussion: The Student Assessment pre-tests and post-tests have been distributed to 21 randomly selected instructors.

Agenda Item: Faculty Evaluation Committee Report
Presenter: Lisa Perez-Nichols
Discussion: Portfolios are due in by November 2, 2006. The department has an evaluation webpage found at (http://www.austincc.edu/lperez/faculty-evals/index.html )
Decision/Follow-Up items: Portfolio training will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 am in HBC 411.

Agenda Item: Faculty Development Committee Report
Presenter: Jeff Millstone
Discussion: The Government Department book Club meeting will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 2:30 pm. Location will be announced soon. The Department is cohosting Constitution Day on September 27, 2007 with details to follow.
Decision/Follow-Up items: The October 12 Brown Bag seminar will feature one of our adjuncts, Reza Rezaee.

Discussion: Paz announced that his committee would be considering proposed changes to department course standards as well as any new course proposals.

Discussion: Frank updated the group on the progress of the Distance Learning self-assessment

Agenda Item: Government Blackboard Subcommittee
Presenter: Cecile Durish
Discussion: Cecile announced that her subcommittee would be working on establishing a Blackboard page for all Government faculty to share teaching ideas. This will be a resource for sharing unique and innovative ideas with all of us.

Discussion: Glen announced that a new edition of the Magleby text will be available in the spring

Discussion: Glen presented travel requests from Dr. Judy Nwachie for NMUN Conference in April and the INMP Training in November and Dr. Marilyn Yale for the APSA Convention in August
