Agenda items covered:
1. Ron Breys proposal to offer US GOV 2613 via the Internet. After much discussion of the course and its requirements, and Ron Breys and Jonathan Bucksteads clarification of issues, the Task Force approved the offering of two sections of US GOV 2613 via the Internet. Ron and Jonathan agreed to update the Task Force during the Spring 97 semester as to how students are handling the course.2. Voting adjunct faculty placement on Task Force. The following adjunct faculty volunteered and were selected to be voting members of the Task Force: Vicke Hammond (NRG). George Finan (PIN), Jonathan Buckstead (CYP), Margaret Dahl (RGC), Hugh Moore (RVS), and David Ferris (NRG).
Remember all adjunct faculty are invited to attend and participate fully in Task Force meetings, except for voting rights.
3. Task Force Organization and placement of faculty on committees. Attached please find committee organization and memberships.
Current committee assignments:
Planning & Budget: start preparing a technology plan for Government collegewide.
Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment: Create course assessment mechanism.
Student Affairs: Identify Government majors and notify them of future GOV 2633 offerings as they develop.
4. Assessment. Stefan Haag presented a proposal for our Unit Level Institutional Effectiveness Program. After a discussion of last years plan, procedures, and results, it was decided that a new approach was needed. With a few modifications, Stefans proposal was approved and submitted to Frank Friedmans office. A copy of the new plan is attached.
5. Update on Spring 98 Course Schedule. Changes recommended by Task Force have been incorporated into the Spring 98 schedule. The next step is review of the schedule by the Provosts. The chair will attempt to keep up with the process and notify faculty if any substantial changes occur in the schedule. Rex Peebles was asked about progress in the schedule and how adjunct faculty would be staffed for the Spring semester. His response was that the schedule changes were being processed and that no decision has yet been made on how to staff adjunct faculty for the Spring, but he would keep us abreast of decisions.
