FAQs:

Can I just use the e-book in StatsPortal and not buy a hard copy of it? Well, if you do that, you will not be able to work on the class anytime that you are not connected to the Internet and you will not have your book in class, where we use it often. On the other hand, in class, I usually have students talk with each other in groups of 3 or so, and if one of them has a book, that is adequate.

Can I just use the Crunch-It software that comes with new copies of the book and not use MINITAB? No. But you will find that the programs are quite similar, so you can use CrunchIt at home just to explore and then come to the lab to use MINITAB to do the work to actually turn in.

Why do I need any of the software at all? The used book doesn't have it. You need a copy of the MINITAB Manual, which is only available through one of the software packages. It is in about 25 pdf documents, so you can download these and either store them on your computer, or print them as needed. Many students find the other parts of the software useful. Aside from the MINITAB Manual, all the crucial parts are available on the textbook's free website. That will be discussed in class.
