Bamboo Auction Details back to top
Auction was 3:00 p.m., August
28, 2004, at Zilker
Botanical Garden, Austin, TX.
Plants were available for you
to examine when the Festival opens on Saturday morning,
August 28, 2004.
Here are the details that applied:
1. Bidding on plants will be limited to Texas Bamboo Society (TBS) members. You can join TBS at the festival or join in advance with this link.
2. In order to bid, you must agree to grow the plant as part of the TBS Stewardship Program.
3. Bidders must sign the TBS Stewardship Agreement in order to receive a bidder number.
4. Winners will act as plant stewards
and grow the plants in Texas, or a neighboring state in a habitat
similar to one found in Texas. Plants must be grown outdoors, either in
the ground or in a container. Stewards will keep growth records and submit
information to TBS every year. here is a copy of the First
Year Data Form.
You will grow your stewardship plants until they are ready to propagate
by divisions. Then you will provide TBS with a total of three propagated
plants, within three years of the time that the plants are ready to be
propagated, during August, in time for the Texas Bamboo Festival.
TBS will use the propagated plants to grow, sell or continue/expand the
program.
5. Bid increments must be in whole dollar amounts (no cents) with no limit on how much you can increase the bid.
6 . If there is more than one plant of the same variety in the auction, winning bidder gets choice and can have all the plants of that variety at the winning bid price for each plant. If the winner does not take all, the second highest bidder can take choice/ all of the reamaining plants of that variety for the his/her losing bid price. If the second highest bidder declines, bidding starts over for any remaining plants of that variety.
7. Plants must be paid for and picked up by 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
8. Cash and checks will be accepted. Sorry, no plastic.
9. If you are a member and unable to attend the festival you may still participate! You can mail a check (made payable to TBS), with a list of your maximum bid for each plant on which they choose to bid. Checks must be received by Monday, August 23, 2004. Someone from TBS who is not bidding in the auction will bid for you. Refunds will be made by TBS as appropriate. Send your check to:
Texas Bamboo Society Auction
6707 Willamette Drive
Austin, TX 78723
Absentee bidders must complete a copy of the bidder agreement and include it with their check(s). Please print a copy of the form from this link.
Absentee bidders have two choices regarding their checks. You can send one check to cover all of your maximum bids for all plants on which you wish to bid, or you can send a separate check for each maximum bid for each plant. Please mail everything in one envelope, and include a note which makes your intentions clear.
Absentee bidders must arrange for someone to pick up their plants, or agree to pay for USPS Priority Mail shipping plus a $5.00 donation for handling, in order to have 3-gal plants they win mailed to them. Shipping 15-gal plants probably is not cost effective, so if you are an absentee bidder, be sure to arrange in advance for someone to take care of large plants you may win until you can pick them up.
TBS members who want to take care of any of
the auction plants before the festival are encouraged to volunteer! Email
Steve
Muzos.
Plant donations are welcomed.
