Dance Lessons Anne Durrum Robinson (anniecreate@hotmail.com)
Dance Lessons: Six Steps to Great Partnerships in Business and Life, Chip R. Bell and Heather Shea, Foreword by Tom Peters, Berrett-Koehler Publishers Inc., San Francisco.
Originally I had bought Dance Lessons for several reasons: I had, for a long time, known and admired Chip Bell's vast knowledge of the training business/art; I had danced from the time I was in high school until I was in my late 70's; I love to watch any form of dancing if it's done happily and well. I was intrigued by the metaphor. So I skimmed my new purchase and set it aside for later enjoyment. The book isn't just a handy metaphor. It's an amalgamation of interviews and varied sources, and it teaches its "dance lessons" from many deeply-thought-out viewpoints. I cannot recommend it highly enough' PDF (2 pages, 64KB)
Vitality: Learning by Living Paul Schumann (pauls@glocalvantage.com)
You Learn by Living, Eleanor Roosevelt, Philadelphia: The Westminster Press, 1960
Eleanor Roosevelt's fundamental philosophy of life was that you are the sum result of the choices you make. To be vital, you must take charge of your own life, and accept responsibility for what you are and will become. The choices that you make are as a result of the values you hold. And, you can alter what you value.
The eleven chapters of the book outline the values that Eleanor Roosevelt felt were important to living life fully. They apply now as well as they did thirty years ago when she wrote them. And, they apply as well, with some interpretation in the context of today's environment, to personal and professional vitality. PDF (6 pages, 146KB)
