More than 2,200 pounds of food were collected during Austin Community College's (ACC) Spring Food Drive in February.
The donations collected will be distributed to ACC students through the Student Life Food Pantry program.
"We greatly appreciate everyone's support and efforts to help our students who struggle with basic food needs," says Dr. Guillermo "Willie" Martinez, Student Engagement and Analytics associate vice president. "These donations will assist approximately 500 students."
Approximately 700 pounds of food were given out to students via food pantries in 2018. Further, in fall 2018, ACC partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank to begin offering a food bank on-site once a month for ACC students. Over a three-month period, more than 30,000 pounds of food, including meats, cheese, bread, fresh vegetables, and canned goods, were distributed.
Donations to the ACC Food Pantry are accepted year round at all Student Life offices.
