ACC graphic design student Melanie Sutherland won the 2019 Eco Bag Art contest.
Nearly 20 designs were submitted for the sixth annual Student Eco Bag Design Contest. Faculty, staff, and students selected Sutherland’s design through districtwide voting. Her design is featured on the 2019 reusable Eco Bag. The bag may be purchased for $2.49 each (plus tax) through the ACC Marketplace.
As a former art teacher, Sutherland says she has always loved to draw and paint. The majority of her inspiration comes from being outdoors.
“I wanted to create a design that would not only be inviting and aesthetic but also draw awareness to a day that I find really important,” says Sutherland. “I was so glad to see that ACC has been, and is continuing to be, so involved in the ecosystem and sustainability of our community and Earth. I couldn't help but participate in this year's design contest. I had the opportunity to apply what I've learned while studying in the Visual Communications Department for graphic design, to help spread the word while being a part of such great events.”
ACC student China Albin received honorable mention.
The contest is sponsored by ACC’s Office of Energy & Sustainability. To learn more about the office and ACC’s environmental efforts, visit austincc.edu/sustainability.
