ACC hosts 13th annual Día de la Familia Festival, 4/27

Austin Community College (ACC) invites the community to the 13th annual Día de la Familia Festival Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd.).

The interactive, family-friendly event celebrates Mexican-American culture and traditions and gives visitors a chance to learn about college programs and services at ACC.

“The perception that college isn’t for everyone must change,” says Dr. Mariano Diaz-Miranda with ACC’s Latino/Latin American Studies Center. “This event invites entire families to explore ACC, meet with staff, and learn about the enrollment process, financial aid, and adult education opportunities that are available.”

Los Texas Wranglers, McCallum High School Ballet Folklorico, and the Ortega Elementary School Superstar Choir will provide entertainment. There will also be children’s activities and prizes. Refreshments are provided.

Día de la Familia is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to reach the growing number of Hispanic families in Central Texas and build a college-going culture. In fall 2017, ACC enrolled more than 14,700 Hispanic credit students, 36 percent of the total credit student body. The college is certified as a Hispanic Serving Institution, a federal designation indicating the college maintains 25 percent or greater full-time equivalent Hispanic enrollment.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Latino/Latin American Studies Center at 512-223-6360 or email ysanche1@austincc.edu.
