Austin Community College (ACC) hosts NASA astronaut Stephanie Wilson and the NASA Drive to Explore mobile exhibit, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, at ACC Highland (6101 Highland Campus Dr.).

The event is part of NASA’s Destination Station tour, which provides guests the opportunity to explore the history of space exploration and learn about NASA’s work to provide technological advances to improve life on Earth.

Visitors have an opportunity to touch a 3-billion-year-old moon rock brought back aboard Apollo 17, the last manned mission to the moon in 1972. It is one of only thirteen lunar samples worldwide available for the public to touch.

The event is free and open to the public. Those who cannot attend, may watch a live, virtual tour led by astronaut Wilson on ACC’s Facebook and Instagram pages.  

Wilson is a veteran of three spaceflights, logging more than 42 days in space. She is the second African American woman to go into space and served as the Space Station Integration Branch Chief from 2010 to 2012.

Following tours of the Drive to Explore mobile exhibit, Wilson and other members of the NASA team will visit the ACC Bioscience Incubator.

The research happening on the International Space Station provides a unique innovation platform for startup companies in the life sciences,” says Dr. Tyler Drake, ACC Bioscience Incubator director. “Together, we can share new ideas and explore the latest advancements in biotechnology and the programs that will change the future of technology on earth.”
