Tuesday, April 2 | Clothing Drive
Nearly 100 students benefited from the joint Adjunct Faculty Association/Student Life Clothing Drive at Round Rock Campus. The college collected more than 500 articles of professional, interview-appropriate clothing. The distribution was organized by Samella McCou and her Student Life team at Round Rock Campus.
Friday, April 12 | Applied Tech Open House
Over 400 students from area high schools and community members attended the Design, Manufacturing, Construction, & Applied Technologies (DMCAT) division open house at Round Rock Campus. The 9th annual event offered attendees a first-hand look at the latest technology used in the industry and featured interactive stations such as a welding contest for local area high school welding programs, a car show, technical demonstrations, and much more. Faculty, staff, and current students were available to interact with guests and answer questions. Exhibitors from business and industry supported the event and explained to prospective students the importance of the high-skill career training our programs provide.
April 21 | Exercise Stars Challenge
350 ACC faculty and staff participated in this spring's Exercise Star Challenge. Together, employees logged a whopping 670,366 minutes — that's 465 days of continuous exercise! Of the registered participants, 57 percent met the exercise goal for their fitness level. The challenge ran February 10 through April 21 and was coordinated by the ACC Employee Wellness Program. Wednesday, April 24 | NASA visited ACC
Astronaut Stephanie Wilson, the second African American woman to go into space, visited ACC Highland as part of NASA's Destination Station tour. Guests explored the history of space exploration and NASA's work to provide technological advancements to life on Earth. Visitors were able to touch one of only 13 lunar samples, a 3-billion-year-old moon rock brought back aboard Apollo 17. An astronaut's helmet, glove, and food also were on display. Following the event, the NASA team toured the ACC Bioscience Incubator.
Wednesday, April 24 | Earth Day Upcycle Clothing Swap
ACC's first ever Upcycle Clothing Swap for Earth Day was a smashing success! The Highland Business Center Green Team collected 293 items of clothing and 38 food items for the Student Life pantry.
Friday, April 26 | Wellness Fest 2019
Nearly 200 ACC employees came together at the Eastview courtyard to celebrate wellness across the district at the inaugural Employee Wellness Fest! The day featured field day games, exercise demos, and health and wellness information tables. Additionally,19 vendors from both the college and the community came out for the event to provide information regarding services related to employee wellness.
Friday, April 26 | College Signing Day
ACC celebrated the fifth annual Central Texas College Signing Day at Concordia University. Inspired by the NCAA's National Signing Day, College Signing Day celebrates high school seniors from more than a dozen Central Texas high schools for their post-secondary plans. The event featured a signing ceremony, performances by area college mascots including R.B. the Riverbat, and musical entertainment by rapper SaulPaul. View photos from the event here.
Saturday, April 27 | Dia de la Familia
ACC hosted its annual Día de la Familia, an interactive, family-friendly festival to celebrate Mexican-American culture and tradition, at Riverside Campus. The free event is part of the college's ongoing outreach efforts to the growing number of Hispanic families in Central Texas. Families learned about educational opportunities at the college and financial support to help pay for college. The event included children's activities and prizes and performances by Los Texas Wranglers, McCallum High School Ballet Folklorico, and the Ortega Elementary School Superstar Choir.
Monday, April 29 | Vet Tech Lobby Dedication
ACC hosted a dedication ceremony for the new Dr. Suanne Davis Roueche lobby at Elgin Campus, Building 2000. Roueche was a national leader of the community college movement and philanthropist who dedicated her life to student success. With her husband, Dr. John Roueche, she established the Dr. Suanne Davis Roueche Scholarship for Veterinary Technician students, an annual scholarship awarded to ten students in ACC's Veterinary Technology program. The couple also established an endowment with the ACC Foundation in 2011, which now stands at almost $600,000. Roueche passed away in December 2017.
