Students get 1-on-1 help paying for college at Financial Aid Day

Austin Community College (ACC) awards more than $70 million annually to help students pay for classes, books, and life expenses. Current and future students are invited to learn how to access these funds at Financial Aid Day from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 15, at ACC Highland Campus (6101 Highland Campus Dr.).

“Paying for college is one of the biggest hurdles students face, but there is money available for those who need help,” says Jason Briseno, Student Assistance executive director. “Our team is here to show students and their families the tools that are available and guide them through the process.”

The event includes an information session from noon to 1:00 p.m. Following the presentation, students can get one-on-one help applying for financial aid. ACC advisors will be on-site.

“I received three scholarships from ACC, and it really helped me to stay focused on my studies. Being able to have time to study and not worry about work kept me on track,” says Vandela Harcrow, ACC scholarship recipient. “No one likes thinking and worrying about money. So, knowing that there was help, even a hundred dollars, was crucial.”

Most students qualify for some aid. On average, students are awarded more than $5,200. Financial aid includes grants, loans, scholarships, work study, emergency funds, military exemptions, and tuition exemptions.
