More than 13,700 students enroll for ACC summer classes in first 24 hours

Registration for summer classes is underway at Austin Community College (ACC) for current and new students. Enrollment opened Monday, May 4. Within the first 24 hours more than 13,700 students had enrolled.

To compare, the total enrollment for summer 2019 was approximately 24,000. By the end of the first day, enrollment for summer 2020 was about 60 percent of the total summer 2019 enrollment.

"We’re still early in our registration period. We don’t know if these strong numbers will continue, but this preliminary data tells us a lot. It shows us that our community needs our support," says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president CEO. "The Coronavirus pandemic hit a lot of people hard. They're out of work or have seen their hours get cut, and they're looking for that next step. Our promise is to help them get there."

For the first time, enrollment opened to both new and current students on the same day, prompting higher-than-usual first day traffic. The ACC registration system experienced periods where it saw students enrolling in more than 4,000 courses an hour.

ACC’s summer course schedule is available online. Classes begin Monday, June 1. For information about getting started, visit austincc.edu/summer. For 1-on-1 support registering for classes, students may contact ACC’s Virtual Registration Stations
