Grab those controllers: ACC powers up first Esports league

Get ready to give those thumbs a workout. Austin Community College District (ACC) launches its first-ever Esports league beginning Monday, October 26.

“With the Coronavirus pandemic, Intramurals aren’t happening face to face. This gives the students a way to compete in a fun and friendly atmosphere while staying safe,” says Tracy Partin, Student Life coordinator. “It is exciting for us to offer a brand new program. I think it will continue to grow and offer a format where students can play against each other in fun games. They might even make some new friends!”

Offered through the college’s Intramural Sports and Recreation, students will compete in a round-robin season of online gaming. Different offerings include Madden 20, NBA2K, Rocket League, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Students must have access to a game and gaming system to compete.

More than two dozen students have already signed up to participate. The goal is to expand the program in the coming semesters. The Esports league is free to ACC students.
