The Austin Community College District (ACC) hosts its first regular board meeting of 2021 3 p.m., Monday, January 11. The meeting is the Board’s first full meeting with newly elected Trustee Dana Walker as well as newly elected board officers.
In December, the Board elected Dr. Nan McRaven as Board chair, Dr. Nora deHoyos Comstock as vice chair, and Trustee Nicole Eversmann as secretary.
“2021 will be another challenging year for ACC as the pandemic continues to impact our community and the College,” says Dr. McRaven. “As chair, I look forward to leading the Board in our ongoing efforts to focus on success and achievement for all students including equity and access, persistence and engagement, and completion and transition to employment/transfer.”
McRaven was recently re-elected to the ACC Board along with Trustee Gigi Edwards Bryant and newly elected Trustee Dana Walker. All were sworn to office in a small ceremony with the Honorable Judge Clifford Brown during the board’s December meeting.
“ACC is at the intersection of opportunity creation and community development,” says Walker. “I am honored to serve the district and look forward to working with my fellow Trustees to make ACC even better at empowering student success.
Walker, who ran unopposed for Place 1, currently works at Facebook, where she leads a risk assessment team supporting the company's Oversight Board, a review body that ensures respect for free expression. Her previous experience includes management consulting in financial services and for multiple U.S. federal government agencies, as well as roles in fashion and aviation. She has a master’s in public policy from the National University of Singapore and a B.A. in international relations from Lehigh University.
Walker assumes the seat following Mark Williams who served on the board for six years.
ACC Board members serve staggered six-year terms and are elected at large by registered voters who live within the ACC District which includes the City of Austin as well as the Austin, Leander, Manor, Del Valle, Round Rock, Elgin, and Hays school districts.
The meeting will be held virtually and is available through the college’s livestream service. For more information, visit austincc.edu/board.
