This year's winner of the seventh annual 2021 Eco Bag Art contest is Hayley Deitemeyer, a visual communications student.
Hayley’s design was selected out of 48 submitted designs through districtwide voting for Earth Week by faculty, staff, and students. Her winning design will be printed on a reusable bag and made available for purchase. Hayley says she wanted her design, ‘Native to Texas, Native to Earth’ to be something people experience every day.
“Sustainability has gone from being a topic of discussion to daily practice in my life. As an artist, I was excited to jump at the opportunity to combine my passions,” she says. “I hear so many individuals talk about the planet’s environment. I wanted to remind people to take a moment to appreciate the unique and beautiful wildlife that is in our own backyard. Caring for our planet begins at home, whether that be in Texas or wherever life takes you.”
Graphic Design student Mitchell Albrecht received honorable mention for his design.
“I was inspired by Mother Earth and all the women I’m grateful for in my life,” says Mitchell. “Sustainability is important to make sure we don’t destroy our planet.”
Individuals interested in ordering a bag may submit a 2021 Eco Bag Order Form. Orders will be processed and shipped when ACC campuses reopen.
The contest is sponsored by ACC’s Office of Energy & Sustainability. For more information about the office and ACC’s environmental efforts, visit austincc.edu/sustainability.
