Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrates a new $250,000 gift from NXP Foundation to support scholarships and a new advanced manufacturing lab at ACC Highland.
The nonprofit organization associated with NXP Semiconductors presented a ceremonial check to the ACC Foundation on Tuesday, November 29, during a special reception at ACC Highland.
“ACC and NXP share in a vision to lift our community through education. This generous donation is a powerful gift that will not only provide much needed financial support for students, but it will help us grow ACC’s Manufacturing program so we can continue to meet the evolving needs of our workforce,” says ACC Chancellor, Dr. Richard Rhodes. “Not only will ACC be able to create new and advanced learning spaces for students to gain the skills they need for a rewarding career in Manufacturing, but we’ll also be able to help alleviate financial challenges. Scholarships are powerful. To our students, a scholarship can renew hope, instill confidence, and show them that someone is invested in their future. Thanks to NXP, we can help more students achieve their academic dreams.”
The donation will help fund Engineering Technology scholarships at ACC as well as the new NXP Advanced Manufacturing Lab. The training tools provided at the lab will support and extend educational curriculum and resources for both adult and high school students entering the semiconductor industry and other advanced manufacturing occupations.
“NXP is dedicated to improving STEM education in the communities where we operate, and this gift demonstrates our commitment to Austin," says Jennifer Wuamett, president of the Board of the NXP Foundation. “Innovation is an essential part of who we are at NXP, and we hope this donation will help foster a new generation of local engineering talent to continue that spirit of innovation.”
Both NXP and the NXP Foundation have had a strong, collaborative partnership with ACC for approximately six years.
