For the second year in a row, Austin Community College (ACC) students, faculty, and staff can ride Capital Metro and Metro Rail for free using the all-new Digital Green Pass. The pass offers unlimited rides to class, work, and anywhere else for one semester.
“Transportation is a real barrier in Central Texas, and getting to campus is one of the biggest hurdles our students face,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “This partnership with Capital Metro helps us provide some relief. These are the types of investments that make a difference. Together, we can make college more accessible for everyone.”
The ACC Board of Trustees approved a one-year extension for the Green Pass program during its regular meeting Monday, July 8. As part of the agreement, the college pays Capital Metro a $429,000 annual fee in exchange for passes for its students and employees. The fee is a 35-percent discount provided to ACC through Capital Metro’s MetroWorks program for higher education institutions.
Since launching the free Green Pass program in 2018, ACC ridership has increased 18-percent. Beginning this summer, ACC riders can sign up for Capital Metro’s all-new Digital Green Pass, making it easier to take advantage of the free rides.
