Austin Community College invites students, faculty, staff, and the community to a special screening of the film “Love Goes Through Your Mind” followed by a panel discussion with the film’s director, Ronak Shah, and ACC counselors and clinicians from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at Eastview Campus, Room 8500 (3401 Webberville Rd.).
The event is free and open to the public.
The film focuses on a successful and acclimated Indian-American family living in Los Angeles. The family dynamic is altered when their eldest son drops out of college unexpectedly and begins demonstrating unusual and erratic behavior. A diagnosis of bipolar disorder sends the family into turmoil as they work to understand and talk about mental illness.
“‘Love Goes Through Your Mind’ presents a realistic and sensitive portrayal of someone dealing with mental illness, the effect the illness has on family and friends, and the stigma often associated with discussing mental illness,” says Dr. Manuel Zamarripa, LPC-S, associate dean of Counseling. “It’s a powerful piece that will move and inspire audiences to contemplate their current beliefs and challenge perceptions on topics that affect everyone.”
Seating is limited. Registration is encouraged.
