February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans to culture, society, and community. Austin Community College District (ACC) welcomes students, employees, and the community to commemorate the month through a series of hybrid and virtual events.
This year’s theme is ‘Black Health and Wellness: To Infinity & Beyond.’ All events are sponsored by the college, the ACC Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Center, and the ACC African-American Cultural Center. They are free and open to the community.
Tuesday, February 1st | Kickback Black: Kicking off BHM 2022
12:00 to 1:30 p.m.: Join members from ACC and the Greater Austin community to share and discuss your wit and knowledge of black history. This event will be facilitated by Roland Hayes, ACC professor and director of the ACC African American Cultural Center, and Corey Greathouse, coordinator of ACC’s African and African Diaspora Studies Program.

Tuesday, February 8th | Art Walk
12:30 to 1:30 p.m.:Participants will immerse themselves in Black stories told through art.
Facilitated by Darrell Merriweather, ACC senior advising specialist, and Sidne Campbell, ACC Career Pathways coordinator.
Wednesday, February 9th | Salon/Barbershop Talk: “BRUH” & “Girrll!”: Healthy Relationships
12:30 to 2 p.m.: This event focuses on the dynamics of healthy relationships in a safe space. Participants will join a multigenerational conversation covering a wide range of topics including strategies to build positive relationships and ways to avoid toxic relationships and behaviors. Thursday, February 17th | Black History Month Poetry Celebration
5-7 p.m.: Experience dynamic spoken word poetry celebrating Black History Month at ACC. There will be networking and giveaways for students.
Tuesday, February 22nd | Living for the Future: Health and Wellness for Sustainable Living
12:30-2 p.m: Experience dynamic spoken word poetry celebrating Black History Month at ACC. There will be networking and giveaways for students.
